Single Action Shooting Society has had their main focus on pre 1900 firearms, but the popular Colt Model 1911 has been added to the mix in a new shooting category called the Roosevelt Action Match here at the Gold Coast Pistol Club Queensland, as Queensland
does not allow Wild Bunch Action Shooting??
Rough Rider or Wild Bunch Action Shooting is a multifaceted amateur shooting sport and a side match of Cowboy Action Shooting, shot under the guidance of SSAA Practical
(in Qld only) which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the taming of the Old West just after the turn of the 20th century. It is a combination of Cowboy Action Shooting and modern Action Shooting. It uses 1911 semi-automatic pistols,
from .22 cal to 38/9mm & pistol caliber lever or pump action rifles, from .22 cal to .45 cal and 12 gauge lever or side by side double barrel shotguns, for Qld only. Other states is 45acp & 40cal & above rifles. Contestants shoot in several three
gun stages (courses of fire) in which they engage steel targets. Scoring is based on accuracy and speed. The 1911 must be a military spec model, no extended magazine wells or fiber optic sights are allowed, but you can modify the gun internally. But, that
doesn’t mean they can’t be fast.
Teddy Roosevelt started the Rough Riders. Hence the name Roosevelt match & Rough Riders. 23000 applied to join and only 560 were selected. This is a
costumed sport & attire of the era is required. We encourage Rough Rider Outfits & most Wild Bunch Action Shooters all over the USA are utilising this concept, we want to adopt that here in Australia too. 😀
